Stubborn Yorkie? Tips For Training A Yorkie
Lets face if you own a yorkie, you've dealt with their stubbornest many times over and over. The Yorkshire Terrier can become quite defiant when trying to work with him/her on training. I recently discovered some things that I feel helped me on my way to getting my yorkie to listen and obey my every command. He are some tips and strategies I fell will help others also.
- Try not to scold, punish, yell, or hit your terrier. I recently stopped all the aggressive training tactics and it seems now that mine is not as hard to train. It actually seems to react better now that I don't do those things to him it anymore.
- Yorkshire Terriers are a completely different breed of dog from others. I've found out that other popular dog training methods just don't seem to stick with him anymore, they actually seem to backfire in many examples I have tried. I'm currently looking into this more to confirm it.
- When command training your yorkie, you should look to master one command at a time and not confuse it. Only use word for example if you are trying to train your dog to sit. Say only sit one minute and then say sit down the next minute. Saying sit and and then saying sit down only confuses him/her even more. Also try to master one command before moving on to the next this confuses them also.
- Their is a proper way to treat train your dog. Only use treats when your yorkie does exactly what you want it to do. Not halfway of what you are asking your yorkie to do. If you tell your yorkie to sit when she is on the floor and she goes to the sofa to sit refrain from giving it the treat.
It is in a Yorkshire Terrier's instinct to obey you. These are just a few helpful tips that me and my yorkie have experienced success with.
